About

Skincare has never something I stressed about. I had been using the same products for years, my skin was happy, life was good. Then, out of nowhere, my jawline broke out in cystic acne, my lymph nodes swelled up like I had the plague, and I found myself in a battle with my own face.

The worst part? Nothing in my routine had changed. No actives, no sudden diet shift... So, I did what any sane person would do: I flipped over my trusty moisturiser and checked the ingredients list. Turns out, the only things I recognised were “aqua” and “perfume”… which wasn’t exactly reassuring.

That’s when my inner investigator kicked in. If my skin was rejecting something, I needed to strip everything back and figure out what. I started with castor oil (it was already in my house, so why not?), but my acne took that as an invitation to throw an even bigger tantrum. I replaced my IUD which I suspected to be impacting my hormones but after three months with no change, I'd had enough.

One night, frustrated and venting to my partner about the unnecessary complexity of products on the market today—and the state of my jawline—I declared: “I want to use what the Egyptians used.” That one line sent me down a rabbit hole.
Tallow.
Used by ancient Egyptians to moisturise skin, soothe wounds, and protect against the elements, it wasn’t just skincare—it was survival.

The problem? I couldn’t find a single skincare product made with it. All I could track down was a tub of raw tallow from a local butchery. So, I bought it. And it worked. Two days in, my inflammation was gone. A week later, my skin had completely calmed down and in 2 weeks my skin had completely cleared. For the first time in months, my face wasn’t at war with me. I could reintroduce all my active ingredients and this time they worked as intended.

At first I made my tallow cream for myself. On a visit to my parents, they noticed how my eczema—flared up from a long road trip—had cleared within days. They mentioned it to a few friends, who shared it with theirs. Before long, I was getting messages from people asking if they could get a jar too.

So, I figured… why not?

As a systems developer with a farm upbringing—and someone who once helped lead climate change protests opposing oil drilling along the KZN and Eastern Cape coastline—I love solving complex problems and I've always cared about natural, sustainable choices. Creating Comando felt like a natural extension of both. What started as a simple solution for a personal problem, quietly grew into something worth sharing. I knew how desperate I was to find a product I understood and could depend on, and I was clearly not the only one.

Comando is simple; it works and it is the antidote to all the noise. Importantly, Comando is not meant to be a substitute to your 10 step skin care routine because everyone’s skin is different and needs different support. But it will fit seamlessly into your routine no matter how simple or elaborate.

You don’t need a reason to get Comando. But if you would like some convincing...

Comando intends to be:

1. a back-to-basics and intentional, organic moisturiser:
Comando is intentional about its ingredients, so you can be intentional about your skincare as well as your impact on the environment.

2. a complementary product to whatever products you are currently using. It’s rich in vitamins A, D, E and K as well as Omegas so it's brilliant for your skin and your body. Interestingly, your skin absorbs 60% of what you put on it. Here's a some more info on Comando's Natural Vitamins.

3. sustainable and respectful to nature and life.  It was important to me, so I know it will be to you as well: Comando’s tallow is sourced from a single farm that practices sustainable, regenerative farming, meaning no hormones, no antibiotics, and no waste—just pure, skin-loving goodness. Also Comando tallow is halal certified.

Whether you're a modern woman investing in high-quality skincare; a mom looking for a safe, organic alternative; or someone struggling with acne or eczema and ready to try something new, Comando has your back. (And your face, elbows, and everything in between.)

Because sometimes, the best skincare isn’t a new idea—it’s an old one.
